This short film is by Pimpaka Towira, a female director and producer whose work has featured in various international film festivals and received a number of awards. Malaria & Mosquitoes tells the story of a stateless Karen widow who wants to sell her husband’s boat so that she has enough money to struggle for Thai citizenship and an ID card. The film screened in Spectrum Shorts, the 43rd International Film Festival, Rotterdam; Longest Night for shorts 2014, Nantes; and in-competition of the 16th International Women’s Film Festival in Seoul (IWFFIS)

Ms. Pimpaka Towira She is one of the very few prominent female directors in Thailand. Ms.Towira has received international and domestic awards and her films are selected for screening in several international festivals. In addition, she has been participating with HHs since the beginning of the project and understands the objectives well. Her only film in mainstream industry is ‘One Night Husband’ with GTH.
